Good morning Kindergarten friends and parents!

Here is our week at a glance:

Parents ... this video is for YOU!!!

Thank you SOPHIE for sending in the video of the "Days of the Week" song.  You are wearing my favorite hoodie!

Daily Message:

Word Work:  High frequency words are quite simply those words which occur most frequently in written material.  For example, "and", "the", "as" and "it".  Some of the high frequency words can be sounded out using basic phonic rules, e.g. "it" is an easy word to read using phonics. However, many of the high frequency words are not phonically regular and need to be memorized.  This is the list that I like to use when teaching sight words to my Kindergarten students.  We will be focusing on 3 words a week.  This week our words are "the, of, to".  Today your child can watch the following videos :

Here are some short videos to help you remember "the":

Writing:  We are going to do some journal writing today (minus the journals).  Today I want your child to draw a picture and write a sentence (or 2 or 3) to tell me about their weekend.  During this journey of online learning, I want us to stay as connected as possible.  I will be sharing about my weekend in my video.  They can start their sentence with this sentence starter ...

On the weekend I ...

They can then finish their sentence using inventive spelling, the process of which I described last week.  We have worked hard at learning to "hit the bullseye" in our writing (see below).  Please encourage your child to draw a detailed picture to match his/her writing using more than 4 colors.  Please take a picture or your child holding up his/her completed journal entry and email me a picture.

Specific Learner Expectations:  The child begins to make connections among sounds, letters, words, pictures and meanings.

Number Talks:  We will continue our number talks for numbers 5 to 10 with next months calendar!  You are more than welcome to continue this routine with your child this month if you have time!

Have a great day!  Remember ... do how much works for you and your child.

Love,
