It's APRIL! Hurray!

Good morning kindergarten parents!

At the beginning of each month, when adding a new calendar piece to our calendar, we spend some time showing all of the ways we can "show" that number.  Today being the 1st day of April, we are going to look at what's happening this month (special days, birthdays) and talk about the number 1.  I will go over how to print the number 1 and remind the students of all of the different ways we have been showing our number awareness since the beginning of the year.  For the number story portion of the task, your child can tell you the stories for you to write them down.  Many of the students use their fingers to help them come up with stories.  You can also encourage your child to use manipulatives (legos, coins, stuffed animals etc).  If you wish, you can email me their work but it is not necessary.  We will be doing this same short activity for the numbers to 10 as we continue doing the calendar on a daily basis.

This is an example of what we have been doing during our large group discussions on numbers:

Disclaimer: In the video, after reminding the kids how to draw a ten frame, I showed them how to draw the face of a dice, asking them to show the number 10 on it (instead of the number 1).  Oops!  I'm not sure if THEY will pick up on this mistake, but just in case, please tell them it was my mistake!  I obviously needed more coffee this morning!

I am already tired of seeing myself sing the days of the week song (and my teens are getting tired of hearing it too!).  How would YOU like to be on our blog singing the "Days of the Week" song?  Get mom or dad to take a video of you singing and doing the actions and send it to me!  Who knows when you will see yourself on our blog!
