Marvelous Monday!

Happy Monday, I mean TUESDAY!!! A few things before I forget ... The students are bringing home their poetry books with 2 of the songs that we will be performing at our Spring concert the evenings of March 4 and 5.  We are practicing lots in our classroom and during our time in music, however any time that you could help your child practice at home would be appreciated!  As you can imagine, it takes lots of practice for us to be able to perform in front of a crowd.  We want to do our very best!!!  There will be two performances on March 4 and 5. To accommodate all families in our gym we are dividing our performances:  The students with last names that begin with A-K will be performing on Wednesday. The students with last names that begin with L-Z will be performing on Thursday. There will be a daytime ( Wednesday 9-10am   and   Thursday 1-2pm ) performance and an evening (6:30-7:30pm) performance on each day. Tickets will be needed for the evening performance.  Each   fa

Fabulous Friday!

What a great few days we have had.  Both classes were excited to go snowshoeing for the very first time.  They were troopers ..  I wasn't expecting them to do so well and it was hard work with lots of learning!  I think they enjoyed it judging by the number of requests I have had to go again!  Our field trip yesterday was fabulous.  It is sure nice to get out of the school for our learning.  There are always objectives to the field trips and extra experiences I try and provide.  I was hoping, through visiting the florist, that it would help us set up our own flower store in our dramatic play center.  It was interesting to hear the students talk about having to put the flowers in the refrigerator etc as we were setting up our center today.  We wrote in our journals about our favorite part of the field trip and our favorite things, in order were .... 1.  Drinking hot chocolate at Starbucks.  2.  Seeing the firemen 3.  Handing our the carnations.  Yesterday after our field trip, we

Terrific Tuesday

It has been another busy week in Kindergarten!  Here is what we have been learning ... Math:  We have continued our work on shapes, identifying characteristics that are unique to each shape.  Today we discussed how a square and rectangle are the same and different.  Each day this week we have been practicing all of the different ways to show the number on the calendar.  Today we talked about what an even number is.  Ask your child if he/she can tell you what is special about even numbers.  We have just started our learning about even and odd, so if he/she can't tell you, don't worry!  Literacy:  We have done lots of writing this week including writing about our favorite color and why we think it is best.  We started by watching the story "Red is Best".  We then watched the Flames hockey team read the story (which some of the hockey fans thought was pretty cool) and discussed why they might think red is best.  The students were then encouraged to choose their own f
