Good Morning! Yesterday, June 21,  was  National Indigenous Peoples Day .   This video will help explain what indigenous means! The indigenous people of Canada have a profound spiritual connection to  land .  Aboriginal  law and spirituality are intertwined with the  land , the  people  and creation, and this forms their culture and sovereignty. ...  Land  is their mother, is steeped in their culture, but also gives them the responsibility to care for it.  Today, I want YOU to go out onto the land.  Listen to the following story to see what your task is! Good Morning! Duck Update: People often ask me why I don't keep the ducks any longer than about 2 weeks.  Here is why ...  Our ducks are now 1 month old and enjoying their new home at the Country Club Pet Resort.  Science! Good Morning! Let's learn about ants ... Literacy: Can you spell the word "ant"?  Lets think of all of the different words we can make that rhyme with ant.  Remember that rhyming words end with the same sound!   Science/Writing/Art: In your visual journal, lets draw (or print) and label a picture of an ant!   They are the perfect insect to see the 3 body parts, 6 legs, 2 eyes and 2 antennae.  You can make small ants or one big one!   Have you ever had ants on a log???  Here are the directions to make this delicious (and healthy) treat  Here is the video about how Barbara Reid makes her pictures ...  Here's a song for you ... Good Morning! (and Storytime #1) Ladybugs! The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle.   In your writing journal, draw a picture of something that makes YOU grouchy.  I get grouchy when my kids can't find the dishwasher.  GRRRRRRRR! Here's a fun math game you can play.  All you need is some markers (10 each of 2 colors) and a copy of the game sheet.   Roll 2 dice and cover the sum (the total).  The first person to get rid of all of their markers first wins! Good Morning! What IS an insect? Remembering what makes an insect unique, can you use beautiful things from your house and outside in nature, to create your own insects???  Remember to send me a picture! Good Morning! Our butterflies have emerged from their chrysalis!  Here are some pictures!  The first is a close up of our Painted Lady butterflies! We have 14 butterflies that have hatched!  We started with 17.  How many didn't hatch??? This is what the chrysalis looks like when the butterfly has emerged. Our butteflies are loving the juice from watermelon and oranges!   Can you draw a picture of the butterflies in your visual journal? Follow along with our friends at Kids Hub as they teach you how to draw a butterfly!  Can you label your butterfly with the kind of butterfly?  Remember they are Painted Lady's! Good Morning! Literacy: Today is THURSDAY!  Join our friends Geraldine and Sesame Street to learn more about the /th/. It is supposed to be a beautiful, sunny day out today!  Put on your sunscreen and hat, grab a water bottle and head out into nature to see how many letters you can find! Math: Capacity!!!!  Here is your capacity problem for today.  You will need your FAVORITE water bottle and your visual journal as well as something to write and draw with.  What can you find that holds MORE water than your water bottle?  Send me a picture of your findings! Good Morning! A huge congratulations to Mason and his mom and dad who welcomed a new addition, Easton to their family last week! Literacy: M and W scavenger hunt!  Using mom or dad's iphone or camera, take pictures of everything you can find that start with the /m/ and /w/ sound.  Can you find more items that start with /m/ or /w/?  Send me a collage of your photos OR send me your favorite pic!  You can always print off your photos and glue them into your visual journals too! Math: Let's follow along with Ms. Konno as she teaches us how to make an origami house.  You will probably need some help with this! Good Morning! Literacy: Mystery Words (or letters)  –  Write words on white paper with a white crayon. Students paint over the words with watercolors to make the mystery words appear. To switch things up, encourage your child to print the letters or words and YOU paint overtop to discover the words. Our last of the first 25 most frequently used sight words are :  at, one, have, this Animal Update!
