Thursday, April 16

There is a commercial going around on tv that has different people singing our national anthem.  It reminded me of this video I took during journal writing one day when a couple of the boys started singing "O Canada".  It still makes me smile ...

Birthdays!!!!

Celebrating birthdays in Kindergarten is a BIG deal!  I would love to continue our birthday celebrations but of course, they will look a little different.  This Saturday is Alejo's birthday.  Alejo is in the morning class and I know it would mean a lot to him if all of my morning friends made a short video birthday wish for him.  I will compile all of the wishes and send them to Alejo to help make his special day even more SPECIAL!  I know we are really missing Alejo since we haven't seen him since February!!!!  Please send your video to me by Saturday morning!  Thank you!

Earth Day Challenge:

It is supposed to be a BEAUTIFUL day outside today! Head out on a walk with your family and see how many of the item on our "Outdoor Scavenger Hunt" sheet you can find!  Not all of the items can be found in Calgary, but see what you CAN find!  Can you pick up litter as you go?  How many pieces can you find to pick up?

Here is another Earth Day video:

April Self-Portrait

Every month we have been drawing, painting, making some kind of  a self-portrait.  For our April Self-Portrait, I would like you to use materials found in your house.  What can you use for your hair?  Your eyes?  Your body?  I can't wait to see all of your ideas!  You can glue your self-portrait to a piece of paper or you can put it together on your table and not glue it, but take a picture and send it to me.  Here is an idea of a "found material" self-portrait:

Recycled Garbage Art for Garbage Day! Meet Garbage Girl Gayle!

Math:  Mystery Number:    Using the 100's chart provided, pick a number that your child is going to try and guess.  The goal of this activity is to encourage number recognition, recognize the patterns in numbers and in the hundreds chart and to encourage children to ask questions.  Some examples of questions are:  1.  Is your number odd or even?  Is your number more than 50?  Is your number less than 20?  Does your number have a 2 in it?  You can print out the following 100's chart and put it in a clear ziploc bag so that it is reusable.

You can also go to the following website for an interactive hundreds chart.  Here is the link:
