A video from our friend Alejo ...

We have another birthday coming up next week.  Send me your birthday love (in a video or a pic) by Friday for our friend Elizabeth in the morning class.

Calendar and Morning Message:

Letter Awareness:

Because the weather is supposed to be so beautiful this week, I want to give you fun learning activities that you can do outside.  If your child is still learning to recognize the upper and lower case letters, take some chalk and print the letters randomly on your driveway or sidewalk.  You can print them ALL or focus on the letters they are having difficulty recognizing.  Make sure to add some that they can recognize too! For a challenge, you can have your child print the letters he/she needs to practice.  Make them a list that they can copy out OR call out a letter at a time and help them print it!

Option 1 is to  call out the letter name and have them jump on that letter, throw something on the letter (a rock or beanbag), or water the letter with a watering can.

Option 2 is to give them the letter SOUND and then they have to identify the matching letter (Jump on the letter that makes the /b/sound?)

Option 3 is to give them a word that starts with the letter and they have to identify the letter that the word begins with (Jump on the letter that the word "bird" starts with).

We want your child to experience success and not get frustrated with the option that you choose.  Remember that children are all at different stages of learning and that is Ok!!! You can always start with option 1 and move through the other options.

Word Work (extension activity):

Complete the activity above but with the new and previously learned sight words.  Our new sight words are " is, it, you".  Our previous sight words are "the, of, to, and, a, in".

Math:

Spring Graphing.  Remember that graphing is a way of sorting and organizing information.  Can you count and graph the number of spring objects in the sheet below?  Remember to put a dot or an "x" in the objects as you count them to make sure you count all of the objects and only once!

Storytime!

Just in case you need some additional ideas of things to do!  Unfortunately we can't do ALL of these activities because of social distancing, but there are some great ideas that we CAN do!  Keep track of how many of the activities on the list you get done before the first day of summer in June!

Learner Expectations for todays activities:

Math:  Students can name the number for a given set of objects.  Students can compare 2 given sets through direct comparison; and describe the sets, using words such as more, few, as man as or the same number.

Literacy:  Students begin to make connections among sounds, letters, words, pictures and meanings.
