Terrific Tuesday!

It's amazing how quickly the week goes by!  It was amazing meeting with so many of you last week.  Your child is lucky to have you involved and invested in their learning journey.  Parental involvement and interest does make a difference in your child's success in school.  So THANK YOU!

Yesterday we were very excited to make our apple crisp!  Thank you to everyone who remembered to bring an apple and to Pippa for picking us extras so that we could all participate!  Before cutting our apples and making our crisp, we put all of our apples into one group and looked at all of the different ways we could SORT them into sets.  Ask your child if he/she remembers some of the "sorting rules" we used ...

Thank you to Jo-Lynn and Kathy for volunteering to core our apples and help with the baking process.  We couldn't have done it without you!

After our apples were cored, the students were responsible for cutting their apples into small pieces, adding their pieces to their pie plates, adding cinnamon (if they wanted) and, at last, the topping!  We will be bringing the recipe home in our poetry books on Thursday.

The morning class enjoyed music today while the afternoon class went to the library to listen to Mrs. Cornford (our librarian) share one of her favorite stories.  The students who returned their books were able to exchange for a new book.  Students who forgot to bring back their books will be encouraged to return them when they do bring them back.  The morning class has library tomorrow.

We have started learning about Terry Fox and watched a short video about the Marathon of Hope.  Discussing Terry Fox is always tricky at this age.  The discussion about his prosthetic leg is often scary as well as the C word ... cancer.  I shared with the students that I had skin cancer removed on my nose to help them understand that cancer doesn't always lead to death and that Terry's goal was to raise money to help find a cure.  They found it amazing that the Marathon of Hope has raised over 500 million dollars!  What an amazing legacy ...

Here is a note from the Grade 4 classes who are organizing our Terry Fox assembly and run on Friday morning.  It is the morning class' turn to attend school.  The afternoon class will be doing their own "run" on Thursday in the school field.

Hi students and Parents!
We are having a Terry Fox run on the ridge, Friday, September 27th. We are going to have a pony tail and head shave. The assembly starts at 8:45am. We are asking you to wear red and white. As a reminder please bring good footwear and dress appropriately for the weather.

We are also going to keep track of the number of students who have trained for the run each day during gym time.

Mrs. Gelfand will take a pie in the face if the school raises $9,000 or more.  The class that raises the most money will have a popcorn and/or PJ party.  Please bring toonies for Terry to help support cancer research.

We took a trip to the office today to see where we can put our donations.  Even a loonie can make a difference!

The morning class had fun learning about Slow Motion the other day and were excited to do our own Slo-Mo video.  We hope you enjoy it!  The afternoon class' will be posted on Friday!
